Universal Health Services Media Statement February 16, 2018 Universal Health Services subsidiary hospitals are proud to serve the greater Dallas community as a trusted provider of high quality, compassionate and critically needed behavioral healthcare services to thousands of patients each year. We take this responsibility seriously and constantly endeavor to provide safe, patient-centric care and positive outcomes, enabling our patients upon discharge to experience a higher quality of life. All of our facilities are in good standing. They are licensed by the Texas Department of Health Services, certified by the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) and accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), an independent organization with a 60-year record of conducting robust accreditation and hospital inspections. UHS subsidiary hOSpitals also routinely outperform national and state averages in independently tracked clinical performance metrics. Our patients report high levels of satisfaction with the care they receive at our hospitals, based on the results of thousands of satisfaction surveys. Despite this record of achievement, we recognize that during the course of treating hundreds of thousands of patients suffering from complex and often serious mental health disorders across multiple facilities, isolated and regrettable incidents unfortunately do occur. We view any unintended incident as one too many. All of our facilities have comprehensive protocols in place to investigate, identify and swiftly remediate any deviation from our high standards in order to reduce the possibility of a negative incident re-occurring and to remain in full compliance with all regulatory standards. As related to Timberlawn, the decision to close the facility was made at the end of last year, after a comprehensive review of the investment required to address the aging campus, and in light of the availability of beds and mental health services at other facilities within the Dallas area. Our hospitals look forward to continuing to provide critically needed behavioral health services to the Dallas area patients that we are privileged to serve.
