Johnson Chairman Public Utilities Commission of Ohio 180 East Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43215-3793 Dear Chairman Tom: -0 c o u m I o (Z) 3» DC m CO o o We are witnessing a political power grab of America's power grid by t h e Administration of President Barack Obama and his supporters. This power grab has by passed t h e states, their utility commissions, and t h e United States House and Senate The result of this regulatory rampage h a s been to, through 2016, close 411 coal-fired electricity generating units (our estimate), which have provided t h e lowest cost electricity in America, and particularly in Ohio, for no environmental benefit. Indeed, in its May annual auction, the utilities in t h e P J M Interconnection, in which Ohio is located, doubled t h e wholesale price of t h e power to be traded among themselves in 2017 and 2018. Something m u s t be done to keep some power plants, which generate our lowest cost electricity, in existence. They will definitely be needed to provide low cost electricity to our citizens on fixed incomes and for manufactures of products t h a t m u s t compete in t h e global marketplace. We believe t h a t FirstEnergy's Powering Ohio's Progress Economic Stability Program is a key to maintaining a reliable and sustained supply of low cost electricity in our State. Further, Murray Energy Corporation is a key coal supplier to FirstEnergy's Sammis Generating Station. Many Ohio coal mining and related (eleven to one multiplier) jobs depend on keeping this power plant in existence. Even more importantly, the plant is needed to maintain t h e reliability and affordability of electricity for Ohio's residents and manufacturers. •rtxls 18 t o c e r t i f y t h a t t h e images appearlnsr a r e at* accurate and c^X-^ Robert E.
