Morris, 153 49, effective as of the end of afternoon shift on March 2, 2018. The mine is being permanently closed because the aging of the mine and adverse geological conditions have impaired the productivity of the mine and forced higher production costs. Under these conditions, the mine is uncompetitive and not sustainable in today?s coal and electricity markets. At the time the mine is idled, the Company anticipates that approximately 191 employees will be laid off. In addition, approximately 175 additional employees will be laid off . by June 1, 2018, when the process of recovering equipment from the mine is complete.
