Ignoring a simple email question is not transparent and simply raises more questions. Campaign election fine payments are based on the honor system. You failed twice; by paying the fine late only when exposed and then by trying to hide the date it was paid. Respectfully, Mark Glaeser P.S. I did not "introduce" you to the Gainesville Sun article until today. On Thursday, March 22, 2018, 1:07:40 PM EDT, Arreola, David I wrote: Hi Mr. Glaeser, You are correct I paid the fine late on Tuesday. It was an honest mistake that I forgot to pay the fine when it was levied 5 days before election day. I recall at the time I could not pay the fine and I consulted with the City Clerk at the time, Mr. Lannon about what to do. He informed me so long as I was not planning to appeal he would wait for my payment. Then, I simply forgot to pay the fine and received no reminders, although the law requires no reminders be sent. This was my honest mistake. Upon receiving your email which also introduced me to the Gainesville Sun's article about the fine, I recalled that I had not paid the fine. So I paid it immediately the next day. I want to thank you for reminding me because I wish I hadn't forgot. The fine has now been paid and although the fine was levied before I was a public official, I take the integrity of the office I occupy seriously. I just spoke with the Gainesville Sun about the fine and my delayed response to you was only a matter of my determining the most transparent way to communicate my honest mistake in forgetting to pay this late fee in a timely manner, to which I am committed to doing. http://ccemail.cityofgainesville.org/Message?mid=AAMkADg2YzA0Mjk4LWZkMTEtNDY3NC1hMDU5LWE1MWYyOWNkMDJmNABGAAAAAAC2xWYLo%2bp0QKql28qqq 3/23/2018 Commissioner Mail Archive - Messages for Thank you for your attention to this matter, David Arreola City Commissioner, District 3 3525147224 Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone -------- Original message -------From: Mark Glaeser < mkglaeser@yahoo.com > Date: 3/22/18 11:20 AM (GMT-05:00) To: "Arreola, David I" < ArreolaDI@cityofgainesville.org > Cc: Andrew Caplan < andrew.caplan@gvillesun.com >, TV20 News < TV20news@wcjb.com >, "Forrest S. "In March 2017, City Commissioner David Arreola submitted a treasurer’s report five days late and was fined $898.75, a clerk letter shows." http://www.gainesville.com/news/20180314/dist1-candidate-fined-for-late-expense-report see attached letter from the City Clerk On the evening of March 19, 2018 my email inquired as to the status of the March 2017 fine. On the morning of March 20, 2018 your response states the fine was paid in full. On the morning of March 20, 2018 my response inquired as to WHEN the fine was paid. 48 hours later... crickets. However, the City Clerk's office has informed me that the fine was paid on March 20, 2018, mere hours before you emailed me that the fine was paid in full. Why would you omit the fact that the year old fine was paid right before you responded? Why have you ignored the question about when the fine was paid? Did you ever intend to pay the fine without being exposed? Adding insult to injury, you are also a member of the elections canvassing board.
