me: "Marilyn Sltickland" Date: March 22, 2013 at 5:32:36 PM PDT Subject: Keep up the pressure I'm pleased to report more than 300 small businesses signed onto a letterto Seattle City Council last week against the Council's proposal to tax jobs - a proposal with few specifics that does not connect to a regional strategy to get more people into stable housing. We aren't stopping: this aftemoon, The Seattle Times published an opred co- authored by me, Downtown Seattle Association President Scholes, Greater Seattle Business Association President CEO Louise Chernin. In it, we urge the Council to pursue a fiscally sustainable, regional solution to our homelessness crisis, not a tax on the very employers that already generate $700 million for our city's general fund. We can't let up now. It Is we continue building on this momentum and ensure Council hears from you. Here's how you can get Involved: - Sign on to this followrup letter which will be delivered to Council in advance of their March 28 hearing. Please let us know if you'd like to sign on by 10:00 am. on Monday, March 26. There is no substitute for face-to-face conversations with them. - Share our ogred with your contacts and on social media. It is absolutely critical that businesses of all sizes tell City Council that a citywide tax on Jobs Is the wrong approach to address our region's homelessness crisis. We continue to urge the Council to carefully examine the $63 million the City now spends on homelessness, the $30 million housing bond they approved in 2016. the $290 million affordable housing levy approved by voters, and to take a regional approach to this regional problem, as the One Table effort does. This will create an action plan with specifics to effectively house those who need assistance. Please write or call your City Councilmembers today.
