FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 5, 2018 MEDIA CONTACT: stephen.saunders@cincinnati-oh.gov or 513-368-1353 In-Custody Death Investigation Cincinnati, OH – On April 4, 2018, District Three officers, responded 2623 Montana Avenue for a 911 call at approximately 7:36 p.m. Officers arrived on scene approximately 6 minutes after being dispatched and attempted to locate a subject that was exhibiting bizarre behaviors in the area. Charles Adams, a male black 36 years of age, was located at 2627 Montana Avenue by the officers and placed into custody after responding to their verbal commands. Officers did not use any type of force to subdue Mr. Adams during the arrest activity. Officers observed a small about of blood from lacerations on Mr. Adams’ hands that occurred prior to their contact and immediately requested assistance from the Fire Department for medical aid. While being escorted, Mr. Adams appeared to be lethargic. In response the officers placed Mr. Adams in a seated position immediately outside the apartment building and monitored his vital signs prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. Just prior to Fire arriving to the officer’s location Mr. Adams appeared to lose consciousness. The Fire Department personnel on scene rendered medical aid. Despite extensive efforts, Mr. Adams was unable to be revived and died at the scene. The Criminal Investigations Section and Internal Investigations Section as well as the Citizen’s Complaint Authority all responded to the scene to investigate this in-custody death. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
