The State Superintendent’s initiatives encompass every facet of public education for students from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation. Primary Purpose of the Position: The Community Relations Specialist will manage the system for responding to public records requests and work with the Community Outreach Coordinator and Director of Communication on outreach efforts, media inquiries, and other communications content. Changes in Responsibilities and/or Organizational Relationship Since the Position Was Last Classified Describe in detail the major functions of this position as well as the duties and responsibilities required for each of those functions.  In the small left-hand column, indicate the percent of time the employee spends in each functional element.  The percentage amounts should add up to 100%.  In addition, please place an asterisk (*) next to each essential duty/function as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.% Description of Work: • Create and manage a system for responding to public records requests received by the agency, ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of each request in consultation with department subject-matter experts, legal counsel, and Communications; including compiling, and, where necessary, redacting portions of requested documents as required by law. • Work with the agency Chief Records Officer to facilitate adequate retention and, where appropriate, the transfer of records to State Archives. • Assist the Community Outreach Coordinator in designing, planning, executing and analyzing the success of community outreach efforts to further the priorities of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. • Assist the Community Outreach Coordinator and the Director of Communications to respond to media inquiries, write news releases and other communications content, track and analyze media reports, maintain content on department websites, and other communications-related duties.
