The State Superintendent’s initiatives encompass every facet of public education for students from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation. Primary Purpose of the Position: Deputy Community Outreach Coordinator provides support for NCDPI’s messaging and external community engagement with education stakeholders and the public. Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required in this Position: This position requires someone who is a skilled communicator, a strong writer able to adjust writing styles and messaging to the audience and media, comfortable and able to exercise discretion in dealing with news reporters and the public, a competent editor and proficient in planning and executing communications plans and events for agency leadership. This position requires a person who is self-directed and who can quickly shift gears and handle frequent interruptions and course changes in a dynamic office environment. This employee should be competent in using social media, grammar rules and conventions, the AP Stylebook (or similar guidelines), speak with proper grammar and oral language conventions, and work with a variety of people. A working knowledge of state government is helpful. This employee should be a competent user of standard accepted computer software, such as the Microsoft Office suite.
