UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT Office of the Chief Privacy Officer March 15, 2018 Mr. Austin Evers American Oversight 1030 15th Street, NW Suite B255 Washington, DC 20005 foia@americanoversight.org RE: FOIA Request No. 17-02600-F Dear Mr. Evers: This letter is an interim response to your letter dated August 30, 2017 requesting information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. § 552. Your request was forwarded to the following offices to search for documents that may be responsive to your request: Office of Communication and Outreach (OCO), Office of the Deputy Secretary (ODS), Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development (OPEPD), Office of Post-Secondary Education (OPE), Office of Civil Rights (OCR), Office of the Secretary and Federal Student Aid (FSA). You requested the following information: 1. All communications between any of the individuals in Category A and any of the individuals or entities in Category B. 2. Calendar entries (including invitations) involving at least one person listed in Category A and at least one person or entity listed in Category B and any attachments to those calendar entries. For calendar entries created in Outlook or similar programs, the documents should be produced in “memo” form to include all invitees, any notes, and all attachments. Please do not limit your search to Outlook calendars—we request the production of any calendar—paper or electronic, whether on government-issued or personal devices—used to track or coordinate how these individuals allocate their time on agency business (copy enclosed). Staff in ODS, OGC, and OPEPD informed the FOIA Services Center that after a search of their files, they were unable to locate any documents that were responsive to your request. At this time, the Department is continuing to process your request, and your FOIA request case file remains open. It will not close until the Department provides you with a response regarding outstanding responsive documents from OCO, OPE, OS and FSA. Our final release letter will contain information related to your appeal rights of agency decisions. 400 MARYLAND AVE., S.W., WASHINGTON, DC 20202-4500 www.ed.gov The Department of Education’s mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by Fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
