They skilfully recognise where and how to provide appropriate support and encouragement to help sustain children's enjoyment and engagement.  Children's behaviour is exemplary. Inspector Becky Johnson Inspection report: GattenandLake Childcare, 21 March 2018 3 of 5 Inspection findings Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding Safeguarding is effective. All staff regularly attend training to ensure that they are up to date with the latest safeguarding information. They are extremely knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of abuse and of working with outside agencies to ensure children's safety and welfare are fully protected at all times. Staff's professional development is given high priority. They attend copious amounts of training and share this knowledge with each other to implement what they learn into practice and further enhance the already excellent outcomes for children. Managers have identified that they would like to develop one of the outdoor areas to further enhance children's already excellent outdoor learning opportunities. Partnerships with parents and other early years providers, including the host school, are exemplary. Parents speak highly of the pre-school and comment that their child would not be the person that they are if it were not for the pre-school. They say that staff are very friendly and always have time for children and parents. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding Children's progress is precisely monitored to enable staff to accurately plan for their future learning. Staff know children well and successfully incorporate next steps into activities based on children's individual interests. Children's mathematical skills are exceptionally well supported. They know that the word 'estimate' means to guess, that the number seven is less than 13, and that 11 is less than 13 and more than seven. They know that teen numbers begin with one and that the number eight can be made up of four and four or five and three when counting on their fingers. They eagerly take part in creative activities as they decorate cardboard eggs, concentrating as they carefully spread glue and meticulously sprinkle on sequins. Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding Children's health, safety and well-being are promoted very well. They enjoy time in the fresh air and can move in different ways, such as walking on tiptoes, skipping and jumping. They know that when they have finished a physical activity they need to sit and rest if they are hot. Parents who are firefighters come to the pre-school to teach children to stop, drop and roll, and children also enjoy visits from the local dentist who teaches them how to look after their teeth. Children learn to respect people who have cultures and customs different to their own extremely well. They learn words in Turkish and learn about different festivals. Outcomes for children are outstanding All children rapidly develop the necessary skills to support their learning and they are prepared exceptionally well for school. Children know the letters that begin their names and the names of their friends begin. They use their name cards throughout the session to register for snack and lunch time. They develop independence skills as they pour drinks and put on their own coats. They name the month and the days of the week, and know that Wednesday comes after Tuesday.
