Citizens? Right to Vote on Hosting Olympic Games Initiative

An ordinance that requires a majority of voters to approve any undertaking
by the City County of Denver, directly or indirectly, to provide resources
or financial guarantees in connection with hosting the Olympic Games in
Denver.

Be it enacted and ordained by the people of the City and County of Denver:

The Revised Municipal Code of the City and County of Denver, Colorado,
Title I, Chapter 7, is hereby amended to include a new Article 

Chapter 7 Elections
ARTICLE Required Voting on Olympic Games in Denver
Sec. 15-90

(a)A majority of voters must approve the City County of Denver?s use
of resources, or issuance of financial guarantees, in connection with
hosting of Olympic Games in Denver.

1. Voter approval shall be required in order for the City County
of Denver to, directly or indirectly:

A. Provide financial guarantees in connection with
Olympic Games in Denver

B. Appropriate money for public safety or other personnel
in connection with Olympic Games in Denver

C. Appropriate funds for the use of City facilities or other
services in connection with Olympic Games in Denver

D. Appropriate financial resources or personnel in
connection with bidding for Olympic Games in Denver

(b)The City County of Denver shall submit said question to the voters
in a general election, a scheduled City County of Denver election, a
recall or runoff election; alternatively, the City County of Denver
may call a Special Election pursuant to C.R.S. ?31.10-108 to conduct
such vote.

 If any court finds that any sections, clauses, sentences, parts or
provisions of this ordinance are illegal, invalid or unconstitutional,
such decision shall not affect, impair, or invalidate any of the
remaining sections, clauses, sentences, parts or provisions, of the
law. This law would have been enacted without the invalid sections.

(d)All inconsistent provisions of prior laws adopted by the City and
County of Denver are hereby repealed, to the extent necessary to
remedy the inconsistency.

Effective Date:
All provisions of this ordinance shall take effect immediately.

ENACTED AND ORDAINED this day of 2018 by the
City and County of Denver
