HALIFAX REGIONAL CENTRE FOR EDUCATION May 3, 2018 Dear Parents 8: Guardians, I want to make you aware that there will be a change to the grade con?guration at Rocky Lake Junior High (RLIH) for next school year. Starting in September, grade 6 students from Basinview Drive Community School (BDCS) will attend RUH. These students will remain at until the new grade Primary to 9 school, announced by the provincial government on April 30, opens in the Bedford Ravines area. The move is necessary to support growth in the Bedford community. The population of BDCS has continued to increase to the point where maintaining the status quo until the new school opens is not an option. Between now and the end of the school yea r, staff from the HRCE will work with both school communities to plan for a smooth transition. It is anticipated the addition of the grade 6 students to will increase the population by approximately 90 students. Please look forward to regular communication from our transition committee as we implement short and long-term solutions for the growing community. The announcement of a new school is exciting news for a community and I want to thank the Minister of Education, the Honourable Zach Churchill, and the Honourable Kelly Regan, MLA for Bedford for supporting this project. Best Regards, Elwin LeRoux, Regional Executive Director of Education c: Debbie Metherall, Principal, Rocky Lake Junior High Ken Marchand, Principal, Basinview Drive Community School Honourable Kelly Regan, MLA for Bedford
