STATE OF MINNESOTA Office of Governor Mark Dayton 130 State Capitol ♦ 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard ♦ Saint Paul, MN 55155 May 16,2018 The Honorable Michelle Fischbach President of the Senate 2113 Minnesota Senate Office Building 95 University Ave. W. St. Paul, MN 55155 RE: SF 2849 Requiring physicians to allow viewing of ultrasound imaging prior to an ab01iion Dear Madam President: I have vetoed and am returning Chapter 142, Senate File 2849, a bill requiring physicians to invite the viewing of ultrasound imaging prior to an ab01iion. The bill interferes with the doctor-patient relationship, legislating the private conversations that occur about a legal medical procedure. In addition, providers are already fulfilling their legal, ethical, and professional duties to fully inform their patients of the benefits, risks, and alternatives of any medical procedure. They are the reasons why I join the Minnesota Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Minnesota Section,in opposing this legislation.
