Brian Mason, Minister of Transportation, Government House Leader: On March 19th, 2015, the Lakeview Community Association (the “LCA”) provided your office with a letter related to the captioned project which communicated aspects of the community’s preferences for the proposed rerouting of traffic along 37th street through the Tsuu T’ina lands in order to connect the Lakeview community to 37th street northbound and/or Glenmore Trail. We hereby advise your office that there has subsequently been a significant amount of public engagement among Lakeview residents on this matter, including most recently a Special General Meeting of the LCA held on March 3rd, 2018 at which over 300 community members attended to vote specifically on the proposed changes to community access and egress along 37th street. As a direct result of this public engagement, the LCA Board of Directors hereby rescinds its March 19th, 2015 letter to your office as it has become clear that this letter does not represent the wishes of the Lakeview Community and its residents. As a further result of the direction provided by the Community, the LCA has formed a Southwest Ring Road Committee (the “SWRRC”) which has been tasked with re-engaging the Province and the City on the matter of traffic flows along 37th street including the Glenmore Trail interchange and with the specific responsibility to represent the direction provided to it by Lakeview residents. In general terms, the SWRRC’s mandate is to: 1. Explore and pursue alternative options with the Province of Alberta pertaining to the proposed “all-turns” access to the SWRR interchange at Glenmore Trail and 37th street; and 2. Ensure that the City of Calgary applies the same policies to 37th street as it would any other interface between residential communities and large scale commercial developments to ensure that direct traffic access is not permitted. Pursuant to this mandate from the Lakeview Community, we hereby respectfully request a meeting with the Province to obtain current information and to re-engage discussion about the proposed design of transportation projects that will affect the Lakeview community. We will appreciate your office’s assistance in organizing this meeting. Respectfully, Bradford Chorley Co-Chair, SWCRR & Traffic Committee Lakeview Community Association swrcc@lakeviewcommunity.org cc: Hon.
