STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE (CONTINUED) ARREST ON TRAFFIC / NATURAL RESOURCES / MASS TRANSIT CITATIONS / CRIMINAL CHARGES / MUNICIPAL ORDINANCES / PUBLIC LOCAL LAWS On Monday, May 21, 2018, Baltimore County Police were dispatched to 3 Linwen Way, Nottingham, MD 21236, for a suspicious vehicle/subject call. The caller advised there was a black Jeep Wrangler near her home and that three suspicious subjects got out of it and were walking around homes. The complainant added shortly thereafter that the subjects had broken into 3 Linwen Way. The caller then advised the dispatcher that the first arriving officer was on the ground after confronting the driver of the Jeep Wrangler. Additional officers responded to the scene and located Baltimore County Police Officer Amy Caprio #5785 suffering from traumatic injuries in the roadway in front of 7 Linwen Way. The officer was transported to Franklin Square Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Another witness advised that he observed Officer Caprio outside her patrol car, shouting orders to the driver of the Jeep Wrangler. The witness then observed the Jeep Wrangler drive directly at Officer Caprio and strike her. The Jeep Wrangler then fled the area. Shortly thereafter, another 911 call was received, reporting that the black Jeep Wrangler was abandoned in front of 9515 Dawnvale Rd. Nottingham, MD 21236, in close proximity to the scene. A description of the driver was broadcast over police radio. All witnesses have been identified, have given statements, and will be available at trial. Detective A. Barton #4461 interviewed Dawnta Harris at police headquarters. Harris admitted that he had been waiting in the driver’s seat of the Jeep Wrangler as other associates of his were in the process of committing a burglary. He admitted that he tried to flee in the Jeep Wrangler when he observed Officer Caprio arrive in the block. His direction of travel took him to the cul-de-sac at the end of Linwen Way. He admitted that Officer Caprio followed him there, exited her vehicle, and demanded that he exit the Jeep Wrangler. He admitted that he partially opened the driver’s door, but then shut it and drove at the officer. He admitted to then leaving the Jeep Wrangler where it was later found on Dawnvale Road. During the interview of Dawnta Harris, he identified Eugene Robert Genius as being one of the three subjects that exited the black Jeep Wrangler and went inside 3 Linwen Way to commit the burglary as Harris was waiting in the driver’s seat of the Jeep. On 05/22/18, Eugene Genius was arrested and transported to Baltimore County Police Headquarters. After first declining to give a statement about the incident, Genius later objected to being charged with murder, saying that he was in the house when the murder occurred. He added that he only knew two of the others involved, not all three. The residence known as 3 Linwen Way is a single family residence. Entry was gained after a rear slider door was shattered. Numerous items were stolen from the residence.
