Organized Hate Groups North America Policy Clarification Organized Hate Groups - We want to clarify what constitutes a removal under out Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy. Recent incidents in the United States (i.e. Charlottesville) have shown that there is potentially confusion about our hate org policies and the specific hate orgs in specific markets. Organized Hate Groups - - Size: An organization, association, or group of three or more people. Signals of membership: Group identifies by a name, sign, or symbol. Ideology, statements, or physical actions attack individuals based on their race, religious affiliation, nationalist, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, serious disease or disability. Promotion of symbols primarily associated with other hate groups that meet our criteria (e.g. Swastika). Organized Hate Groups Definitions Praise: An act that seeks to: - Make the cause better in the eyes of others. - Align oneself with a cause. - Give cause a sense of achievement. - Show others the cause has the poster’s stamp of approval. Represent: An act that seeks to: - Speak on behalf of a cause. - Relay messages directed at a cause. - Channel information on behalf of a cause. - Legitimize a cause. Support: An action that seeks to: - Give material aid to a subject. - Lend advantage to the subject. - Improve the financial status of the subject. - Further the purpose or cause. The strongest signals are based off of violent activities [links to internal pages] Strong: Individual is/was a founder, leader, or prominent member of a banned h8 org; slogan/name/symbol calls for violence or uses dehumanizing language or slurs to attack people based on their protected characteristics. Medium: Leader(s)/prominent member(s) have already been banned as h8 figures; slogan/name/symbol calls for violence or uses dehumanizing language or slurs to attack people based on their protected characteristics. Weak: Partnership or alliance with previously banned h8 org (e.g. share activities such as participate in rallies together); individual received a guilty verdict/was proven to be in possession of forbidden symbols or distribution of forbidden propaganda material. Organized Hate Groups (NA) - - - The following organizations are examples of Hate Orgs originating in North America. Historically they have been represented in Profiles, Pages, Groups, and other entities on Facebook and Instagram. Hate Orgs are market-agnostic. All orgs violate regardless of market and locale.
