To: Douglas Deutschman Dear Doug: It has been almost a week now since I learned from many sources that at the Senate meeting on September 5, 2017 you called for an accelerated review of me as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at San Diego State University. Et tu brute! I was stunned by your action and would have preferred to meet with you in person to discuss it, but I left San Diego three days after the Senate Meeting for SDSU-Georgia Convocation Ceremony and meetings with various groups and SDSU partners in Tbilisi, Georgia. Even as I write, I am still in Tbilisi, Georgia. 5/16/2018 San Diego State University Mail - Fwd: Et tu Brute! Moreover, as you may have been told, on the date of the Senate Meeting, I was in Mexico attending to another commitment. I have learned that you are on leave the rest of this month; therefore, I am not so sure that our schedules will permit us to meet in person before you join Wilfrid Laurier University on October 1st. If it does, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity. In case our schedules do not permit us to meet before you leave SDSU for your new position at Wilfrid Laurier, I would greatly appreciate knowing your motive in calling for an accelerated review of me during the Senate Meeting. Until I learned of your comment at the Senate Meeting, I thought highly of you and assumed that we were friendly colleagues, if not friends. Moreover, I have supported you, advocated on your behalf and done everything I could to speak highly of you behind you. I advanced your wellbeing at SDSU. Indeed, I, without input from any other person, creatively found a way to promote you to Associate Dean, the position you now hold at SDSU when your bid to become Associate Vice President for Academic Resources was not successful. It is noteworthy that the Associate Deanship provided the administrative stepping-stone that now paved the way for you to be appointed Dean at Wilfrid Laurier University; a position you are now proceeding to occupy in Waterloo, Canada. Furthermore, I gave you a glowing reference when on behalf of Wilfrid Laurier the Executive Search Firm, the Geldart Group, contacted me to find out about you. Based on my conversation with them, my reference was critical in making the decision to offer you the position. All said, if in the course of our time and interactions, I willfully sought to harm or perpetrate evil against you, may my Lord Jesus Christ, to whom I have given my entire life, see your action as well deserved by me. For one thing, it would be consistent with the Law of Karma, i.e., the Law of Retributive Justice which He Himself appropriately summarized as follows: “As one sows, so one reaps.” Again, if I have ever willfully sought to harm or hurt you, may He shower you with his abundant blessings and make you prosper a million fold in everything you do all your life. 5/16/2018 San Diego State University Mail - Fwd: Et tu Brute! On the other hand, if all I have ever done was to promote your wellbeing and progress as previously detailed, and in return you willfully sought to harm or hurt me, may my Lord Jesus Christ ensure that you reap what you sowed. So that instead of blessings, you are showered with unending curse and harmed, hurt and visited by evil a million fold in everything you do throughout the rest of your life. Please note that in stating the foregoing, I am not necessarily cursing or wishing you evil. I am simply invoking the natural Law of Karma; the Law of Retributive Justice. I live and will continue to live by the following verse from The Book of Proverbs 25:21-22 (see also, Romans: 12:20): “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Accordingly, whenever the opportunity presents itself, I will continue to cater to your wellbeing without begrudging you or holding malice against you. I will never return an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth, for the good Lord has said that vengeance is His, as aptly stated in Deuteronomy 32:35, i.e.: Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’ ~ Deuteronomy 32:35 Accordingly, I leave it entirely up to Him to handle you.
