Wenk to the SES Position of Regional Director, National Capital Region We are requesting approval to reassign Mr. Daniel N. Wonk, the current SES Superintendent, Yellowstone National Park (YELL NP), ES-0340-00, located in Wyoming, to the position of Regional Director, National Capital Region (N CR), located in Washington, DC. The reassignment to the Regional Director, National Capital Region, has been discussed with Mr. Wenk. This reassignment is an opportunity for the NPS to bene?t from Mr. Wenk?s experience and quali?cations in strategic planning and overall leadership to focus on issues regarding urban park sites; cultural and natural resources and preservation management; and to work with complex partners, NPS Friend?s groups and members of Congress, mayors, governors, and other municipal authorities. Mr. Wenk has demonstrated sound leadership and management expertise during his time as the Superintendent, YELL NP. Previous to his position at YELL NP, Mr. Wenk was the Deputy Director, Operations at NPS Headquarters, Washington, DC. Mr. Wenk is skilled in communicating effectively, advocating the requirements needed to accomplish goals and balancing the competing needs for different programs. Throughout his career he has demonstrated excellence, the willingness and ability to successfully manage a variety of special projects for the NPS Director, and the ?exibility to ful?ll the needs of the Service. This level of service, dedication, and professionalism is vital in leading a high caliber region such as the National Capital Region. Mr. Wenk has more than 40 years of NPS land management experience and has gained extensive land acquisition and management experience while serving, for the last seven years, as the Superintendent, YELL NP, WY. Additional positions held by Mr. Wenk include the following: Deputy Director, Operations, Washington, DC for four years; Acting NPS Director, Washington, DC for 10 months; SES Manager, Denver Service Center, Denver, CO, for over ?ve years, and Superintendent, Mt. Rushmore National Monument, Keystone, SD, for 16 years. In these positions he demonstrated he has the skills to deal with unique and complex urban and rural issues. The reassignment is outside the Yellowstone NP commuting area. In accordance with appropriate regulatory and Departmental guidance, Mr. Wenk will be afforded a 60 day notice period prior to our effecting the action. We are attaching the position description, Mr. Wenk?s current bio, and his 2017 Performance Evaluation. With your approval, we will affect the reassignment at the end of the notice period, or earlier if Mr. Wenk waives any or all of the notice period. Mr. Wenk?s current salary is $189,600.00 which is at the top of the SES Level 11 Executive Schedule. We will not be requesting an upgrade in salary.
