RESOLUTION No. gums-93-0 A RESOLUTION OF THE TUSAYAN TOWN COUNCIL THANKING SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR KEN SALAZAR FOR HIS DECISION TO SUPPORT THE WITHDRAWAL OF APPROXMATELY ONE MILLION ACRES OF FEDERAL LANDS SURROUNDING GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK FROM NEW URANIUM MINING CLAIMS FOR 20 YEARS AND OPPOSING EFFORTS TO PROHIBIT SECRETARY SALAZAR FROM ENFORCING HIS ORDER. WHEREAS, the Tusayan Town Council adopted Resolution No?oll' that the Council opposes further uranium mining development on lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park based on ?ndings that such mining activity could threaten Arizona?s heritage, pose signi?cant ecological, public health and safety threats, and threaten the economic well-being of the town to Tusayan as a tourist destination of nor-them Arizona and the state of Arizona; WHEREAS, Secretary of Interior Salazar on June 20, 201 1, announced his decision to extend his current segregation order an additional six months, recommended the extension of his current segregation order for 20 years and put appropriate processes in place for the 20 year extension; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TUSAYAN TOWN COUNCIL AS FOLLOWS: I. That the Tusayan Town Council formally thanks Secretary of Interior Salazar for his decision to extend the two-year segregation order and endorse the withdrawal of the lands subject to his current segregation order for 20 years. 2.
