Chairman Simons:

It is with great regret that I write you today regarding a situation in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune reported on the Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center that
houses its patients in deplorable conditions and whose negligence has led to the death of at least one patient.

As the article reports, the facility?s ?home page boasts that the facility receives a four?star quality rating
from the federal Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. But in truth, the agency gives the home an
overall rating of one out of five stars, the lowest possible score.?1

This report is further continued by the statement issued by Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center?s parent company, Alden Management Services. In their statement, they continue to assert that ?the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has rated Wentworth?s quality of resident care with 4 out of 5
stars.?2 As you can see in the attached screen capture, this message is displayed prominently on their
website.

1 am certain you would agree that, at minimum, this is a clear case of a deceptive act or practice. Further,
it is my belief that this message is a Violation of federal truth?in-advertising laws. Therefore, I would like
to request that the FTC immediately Open an investigation into Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center and Alden Management Services.
