We understand your requirement to notify the State Superintendent of Public instruction, the State Controller, and the local district attorney that based on the findings of the report there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate that fraud, misappropriation of funds, or other illegal fiscal activities may have occurred by individuals formerly employed by the San Ysidro School District. We fully intend to cooperate with any of the above listed agencies should they require additional information from us. We have already taken steps to freeze the dollars associated with the term life insurance payments identified in the Final Report as an overpayment. We will work with our legal counsel, the third-party administrator of the Plan and the San Diego County Of?ce Fringe Benefit Consortium to refund the balance to our District. Additionally, we will review our options as to the feasibility in recovering the additional identified overpayments. In relation to the areas of deficiency that were pointed out in the Final Report, we appreciate the candid review of our systems and processes. We look forward to the opportunity to improve our practice in our efforts to meet the needs of our children and community. It is our intention to complete a comprehensive review of these areas and make corrections where needed. Lastly, the Final Report provides us with a framework to develop robust administrative and governance structures. As the newly appointed superintendent, I am committed to creating the highest level of leadership, systems and supports to best serve our community and understand that process starts with the superintendent and the Board. The Board of Education and myself appreciate the support of your office as we move forward in a positive direction. I look forward to continuing the open communication and partnership that has grown between our organizations.
