Ramsay Health Care statement to 7.30 Ramsay Health Care does not choose prostheses for patients. The choice is made by the doctor. Ramsay does not have any agreements with doctors to influence choice of cardiac devices. We purchase the device that the doctor chooses for the patient if it is on the prostheses benefit schedule. Devices on this schedule have been approved by the Department of Health for safety and efficacy. We have 18 suppliers that supply a variety of cardiac implants. Specifically, within the pacemaker and defibrillator portfolio there are 6 suppliers listed on the prostheses list and Ramsay purchases from all 6. In relation to your question on the phone re using OR lists or other tactics to influence choice, this is not undertaken by Ramsay. Private hospitals operate in a competitive environment and doctors can choose to take their patients to other facilities.
