If you are interested in being considered for the Civil Disturbance Team position, please submit the documents outlined below to me no later than 1630 hours on Friday, March 18th, 2017. Position Description: The Civil Disturbance Team (CDT) is to support the extraordinary enforcement and safety needs of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies. The CDT will be responsible for and expected to perform crowd management and crowd control during civil disturbances, public demonstrations and other events with large crowds. Team members will receive significant training, including initial Field Force Operations, subsequent specialized training depending on team assignment and ongoing training. Members should expect to make additional commitment in terms of availability for call-outs and ongoing training opportunities. Position term: • • Indefinite Members are expected to commit to a minimum of 3 years of service to the team. Requirements of Applicants: • • • • • • • • • Successful completion of probationary period with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.* Successful completion of Field Force Operations (FFO) course. Demonstrated ability to fit into a team concept and work well with others. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment. Self-motivated with a positive work attitude. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Willingness and ability to respond to call-outs in a reasonable amount of time. Maintain assigned equipment in a high state of readiness. Maintain a high level of physical fitness and operational readiness. * Lateral/military experience will be considered for probationary employees, on a caseby-case basis. Prerequisites to attend Field Force Operations (FFO) course** • • • AWR-160, WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders; IS-100.b, Introduction to the Incident Command System or any available ICS-100 series; IS-700.a, National Incident Management System(NIMS), An Introduction **Courses can be taken online at FEMA – Center for Domestic Preparedness https://cdp.dhs.gov/find-training/course/PER-200 Supervision: A Sergeant will be assigned to oversee the training and operational readiness/deployment of CDT personnel. Selection process: Those applying for the Civil Disturbance Team position will submit a memorandum of interest expressing their interest and qualifications. Applicants for the position will be discussed at a Sergeant’s meeting and a ranked recommendation list will be forward to the Sheriff. Final selection will be made by the Sheriff based on recommendations from supervisors and command staff. The Sheriff may also consider length of service, seniority, general knowledge and skills and job-specific abilities.
