100 Alice Dr. Abbeville, S.C. 29620 October 30, 1995 Dr. Constantine Curris Office of the President 201 Sikes Hall Clemson University Clemson, S.C. 29633 Dear Dr. Curris: As a parent of two Clemson graduates and an eight year member of IPTAY I feel obligated and uniquely qualified to voice a serious concern. While the discussions concerning the Carolina Panthers? use of our stadium were going on I had some concerns but having professional football in "Death Valley" sounded appealing. Later as the serving of alcohol issue surfaced I continued to be silent. During the "Georgia Game" there were two Georgia fans in our seating area, who being highly intoxicated, had to be cuffed and taken out of the stadium by deputies. In all our years at Clemson games my wife and I had never experienced an incident of this kind. This incident and my daughter-in-law's recent support of the efforts of Rev. Ron Singleton has reminded me that I have been negligent; I should have gotten involved from the beginning. Clemson is founded in tradition and has always stood for family values. We made a mistake by allowing professional football with the sale of alcohol into our stadium. It has jeopardized our traditions and values. Alcohol has no place in any event on our campus and should never be allowed into "Death Valley" or Littlejohn. Please use your influence in the future to protect our great fans and our young people from these kinds of things. I am sure you can agree that money is not everything. We must never sacrifice the traditions and the good name of CLEMSON. Thank you in advance for your concerns and support. Sincerely, i~ Fred L. Lewis, Jr.
