115th Online College Update Van Ton-Quinlivan, Executive Vice Chancellor Ajita Talwalker Menon, Senior Advisor to the Chancellor Marc LeForestier, General Counsel Finalized in the Governor’s Budget • $120M in one-time funds (over seven years) and $20 million in ongoing funds to build the 115th Online Community College to support working learners. • Final Budget Act and Trailer Bill outline key deliverables for the college building on provisions included in the Governor’s May Budget Revision, with an emphasis on ensuring the new college is well-aligned with colleges within the CCCs. • First year deliverables identify key milestones to prepare for initial student enrollments by the Q4 2019. Planning for Implementation • Successful implementation requires the college to support the complex needs of working learners now and into the future and be responsive to a dynamic labor market. • An advance team (in formation) will undertake foundational implementation work in the transition to a permanent leadership team established at the college by early 2019. • Early philanthropy will support key foundational work streams for the college as needed required to meet July 2019 statutory deliverables. • Early work will focus on planning and development work that emphasizes engagement with working learners, faculty and staff and other stakeholders, industry and employers in a user-driven design approach. Planning for Governance • The enabling budget legislation establishes the Board of Governors as the governing board for the new online community college district. • Planning underway for August organizational meeting for the online community college district “Board of Trustees.” • The General Counsel’s office will work with a private law firm (tentatively beginning in August) with college district expertise to advise to the Board of Trustees on the formation and governance of the online community college district. • Planning activities involving the Board of Trustees (or a subcommittee) will continue through the end of 2018.
