We are keeping track as the union is using this strike to get teachers? data info. I?d say as this strike picks up steam that we?ll see roughly half our schools. BASIS knows they have at least 3 schools where 40% or more of the teachers have submitted Paid Time Off slips so they are still deciding whether they will close just some schools or network-wide. Legacy Traditional has one school closing. AZ School for the Arts will close. Freddie?s school will stay open. Kim Chyka is planning on keeping his school open. And the list will go on. Hey, out of curiosity, do you have many charters that will be closing this week for the protest? From: Kathy Senseman Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2018 3:47 PM To: Eileen Sigmund Subject: RE: last week's Board meeting. How about 2pm at Valle Luna at Greenway Cave Creek. I?m open to other locations if you've got them. Was just trying to find something on the map that was near your offices and in the general direction of Challenge Charter so I could pick my kid up after we meet. I'm happy to change locations if you?ve got a better idea. Kathy, I am so sorry: can we please meet in person next week to discuss? Eileen From: Kathy Senseman Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2018 12:02 PM To: Eileen Sigmund Cc: Ashley Berg DeAnna Rowe (deanna.rowe@basisschools.org) Jim Swanson Rachel Yanof Subject: RE: last week's Boa rd meeting. Eileen Thank you for your email explaining things. I have been extremely disappointed and quite frankly perplexed by the Associations seemingly lack of effort with the Board of recent. As read your email I hoped to hear something along the lines of we?ll do better or even some act of contrition for putting the Board in such an untenable position in front of a hostile room. Having a standing agenda item is a privilege we have extended to your organization to help ensure there is a productive dialogue and a meaningful exchange of information. That trust has been shaken. The presenter you put forth at the April meeting caused not only outrage among my Board members but has now taken up precious staff time looking into the illegal activities he expressed. No presentation should ever result in staff opening an investigation or questioning statements as to their intentions and actions. As you know we have a lot on our plate at the moment and your organization adding to that work load unnecessarily is exasperating. have asked Ashley to vet your future presentations with me prior to placing them on the agenda. We will take it month by month. But should we have another mishap I will consider removing the Association as a standing agenda item until I feel you are prepared to give an effort worthy of this Boards time. We very much value the relationship the Board has with the Association and look forward to working constructively on the many issues that are before us or soon will be. Please continue to work with Ashley to improve communications. She has the full support and weight of this Board behind her. Please LMK if you have any questions. First, I wanted to update you on the speaker last week. After both the Charter Board I have visited his rural school, and both came back with high marks, so we asked him to speech. Collectively, my team spent over an hour preparing him: reviewing his PowerPoint; his talking points; and updating him on the ACLU. We provided the opportunity to showcase he just ran amuck. His attorney is providing evidence to Ashley on how badly he misrepresented what he was attempting to tell the board about the transition from 2005 alternative school to the current school. 2. Next, I wanted to make sure you knew that Ashley are now in much better communication contact. I had asked repeatedly to be her point of contact: as I had with DeAnna, but we had other strong personalities on my team, but now Ashley are working through multiple issues, including a planned approach to next month?s Board meeting. Any questions or clarification, please let me know. Eileen Eileen B. Sigmund President, Arizona Charter Schools Association Manager, Center for Student Achievement New Schools For Phoenix 602.616.9906
