THE DALL AS MORNING NEWS COLLEGE INTERNSHIP PROGR AM INTERNSHIPS The Dallas Morning News, Texas’ leading newspaper, offers paid internships in news, copy editing, business, features, audience, sports and digital design/data. Internships are also available in photography, at the Washington, D.C., bureau and at our Spanish-language publication, al día. Most internships take place during the summer, but the sports internship occurs during the fall, generally starting around Labor Day. My internship at The Dallas Morning News was the single most important job I’ve ever had. It impressed my professors in college, helped me get summer internships and even scored me jobs in my first few years as a professional. The name alone — The Dallas Morning News ­— is one everyone knows. ~ Sarah Blaskovich Entertainment Editor and former intern ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate), or they may have graduated within six months of the internship start date. Previous daily newspaper experience is requested. COMPENSATION College internships are full time for 10 to 12 weeks, and interns are paid $15 an hour for a 40-hour work week. Interns should have a car in good working condition. SCHEDULES The standard work week is Monday-Friday, but some weekend, night and holiday shifts may be required. Also, all interns are expected to attend brown bag sessions, an intern bus tour, the intern reception and the publisher’s luncheon. Working in the features department gave me the chance to work one-on-one with one of the best editors I’ve ever met.
