From: Anniken Williams, Public Policy Polling To: Interested Parties Subject: Strong Republican and Independent Support for Mueller Investigation Date: August 31, 2018 A new survey by Public Policy Polling finds that there is strong support among Republican and Independent voters for the Mueller investigation. 94% of Independent voters and 90% of Republican voters agree with the statement: “No one is above the law, not even the President.” An overwhelming majority of Republicans (74%) and Independents (83%) strongly agree with the statement. A majority of Independents (82%) and Republicans (62%) agree that it is important for the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation to follow the facts wherever they lead – with 71% of Independents and 45% of Republicans strongly agreeing with the statement. Overall, Independent voters have a more favorable opinion of Mueller than they do Trump. 46% have a favorable opinion of Mueller and 39% have an unfavorable opinion of him, while Trump’s approval remains low at 36%, with 62% disapproving. By two-to-one, a majority of Independents believe the Mueller investigation should continue. 64% of Independents believe it should continue, while 33% think it should be shut down. Even 25% of Republicans believe the investigation should continue. Key findings in the survey include: • A large majority of Independents (71%) believe that a President who breaks the law or obstructs an investigation should be indicted while in office. Four-in-ten Republicans (39%) also believe this statement. • A majority of Independents (67%) and a plurality of Republicans (38%) think Trump should not pardon Manafort.
