However, USCIS must have a privacy release signed by each beneficiary overseas, age 14 and over, in order to release information regarding their pending immigration matter. Privacy Act laws and the Department of Homeland Security’s regulations and policies prohibit USCIS from disclosing information to a third party without consent from the individual whose information is being sought. Policies pertaining to the release of information regarding refugees are particularly strict. The release must be signed by that individual. A relative, an attorney or authorized representative, even when there is a G-28 on file with USCIS, cannot authorize the release of information on behalf of the individual.
