COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT Capilano commits to new testing facility in Australia Capilano Honey Limited has today announced a range of initiatives to reassure the public that the Allowrie honey brand - a blend of imported and Australian honey – is free from other substances. The following initiatives have been announced today: § Capilano, with other industry players and requested Federal Government support, will fund the establishment of an Australian based NMR facility for honey testing. This will be an independent facility, not commercially housed and set up to test any honey for sale in Australia. This is in recognition that overseas facilities mentioned in recent media reports are failing to give a consistency of results needed to reassure the Australian public. § Capilano will be re-testing all of its imported honey products to provide further confirmation that Allowrie honey has passed all internationally accepted tests and continues to pose no risk to the consumers’ health. Capilano is fully supportive of increased and improved testing of imported honey and will reject any imported honey that fails these tests. Managing Director of Capilano, Dr Ben McKee said. “Recent media reports may have caused concern with the public and their honey purchases. Today we are moving to preserve consumer confidence, with a range of initiatives to allay these concerns. “We have commenced discussions with the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Honey Bee Products and most importantly the University of Sunshine Coast, who currently have NMR capability, to establish an independent honey testing facility. We have also held discussions with the Australian Honey Bee Industry Council Executive Director and Chairman to ensure such a facility meets its needs. “Even though Capilano has a testing regime that is internationally recognised, we can see the added benefit of investing in new testing regimes to continue to maintain the confidence of consumers and the Australian honey industry. “Our Capilano honey brand continues to be totally Australian pure honey and the market’s leading brand,” concluded Dr McKee. 399 Archerfield Road Richlands QLD Australia 4077 PO Box 531 Inala QLD Australia 4077 T +61 7 3712 8282 F +61 7 3712 8286 E honey@capilano.com.au capilanohoney.com Capilano Honey Limited ABN 55 009 686 435 Re-testing of Allowrie honey Capilano Honey Limited is focused on using the international best practice methods of analytical testing to ensure products are not adulterated.
