Participants in the Elk River Valley Round Table Event will be able to discuss: 1. Eight Broad issues that are currently occurring in the region, 2. Develop local approaches to addressing these issues, and 3. Create next step strategies round the following those topics Examples of the topics and some of the questions that will be explored throughout the day: Healthy Living & Wellness o Looking at what is the most significant health and wellness Issues in the region • Substance Abuse Prevention o Looking at prevention, treatment and recovery o Who is most effected and contributing factors • Education o Exploring ways to assess quality of education o What are opportunities for enhancing quality of education: K-12, post-graduation, workforce development, etc. o Exploring if there are barriers to enhancing educational opportunities, and if so exploring what they are and how to address. o Looking at what students have as extracurricular activities, clubs, sports, opportunities? Housing o Exploring affordable housing o Explore what problems remain with re-building after the floods? o If multi-family housing were available, would you or residents in area want to live in it? o Is the infrastructure adequate (roads, electricity, gas, water, sewer/septic) Transportation o What are the transportation needs to the people living in the area or region (in your neighborhood)? o What kinds of transportation service would be used in your neighborhood, if made available? Are there barriers to public transportation – cost, location of stops, frequency of stops, area of coverage for • Other Essential Services o What goods or services are needed that are not easily available now. o How do you access the goods and services you need now? o Is “walkability” in your area an issue? • Youth Development o What do the kids need that they are not getting? o How would you recruit youth to this conversation? Recreation & Sports o What recreation facilities and opportunities are readily available? o If asked, what activities or facilities would they want to use in the region that are not available now o Discussion around existing and missing recreation and sporting opportunities
