Date: Reference: 6 September 2018 EDM/INF./COP24/SEPT.18 INFORMATION NOTE Early opening of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 24/CMP 14/CMA 1.3, Katowice, Poland I hereby inform Parties and observer States to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), its Kyoto Protocol and its Paris Agreement that the twenty-fourth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP), fourteenth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) and the third part of the first session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA) will open on Sunday, 2 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland. The President-Designate of COP 24/CMP 14/CMA 1.3 consulted with the COP Bureau and it was agreed that an early opening of the session will provide an opportunity to make the best use of the time available to finalize negotiations on the Work Programme under the Paris Agreement. All six Bodies of the UNFCCC will open and launch their work on Sunday, 2 December 2018. The secretariat will liaise with the Host Country on logistical arrangements for the sessions regarding the new opening date of COP 24, including pre-sessional and preparatory meetings prior to the Conference.
