University Circle City: Lafayette State: LA Zip Code: 70504 School or department involved: Athletics, HR, Personnel 5. Have you tried to resolve the complaint through the institution's grievance process, due process hearing, or with another agency? Yes Agency Name: Univ. of Louisiana-Lafayette Date Filed: 10/07/2017 Current status of the complaint: Reported numerous Title IX violations to Dr. Savoie - President, Bryan Maggard - Athletic Director, Jessica Clarke-Leger - Assistant Athletic Director, Patricia Cottonham - Dean of Students, Megan Breaux - Title IX coordinator, SAAC committee and Director Carleigh Martin. As a softball team, we were deprived of a strength and conditioning coach, athletic trainer, water, physical assessments, inadequate medical care, and denied medical insurance for student athletes. We were neglected of softball maintenance as simple as cutting the grass and maintaining the batter's boxes while the football practice field, next door, was maintained everyday. I was discriminated against and called the n word which was reported to administration and no was action taken. Failure of administration to investigate physical violence amongst teammates. Assistant coaches not being paid for several months. Concerns were reported that resulted in the firing of the coaching staff on November 1st, 2017 in which we were locked out of our own facilities. Players were threaten with being arrested, the loss of scholarships, and transfers were denied selectively. 6. Describe the discrimination On what basis were you discriminated against? race; sex; retaliation; Dr. Savoie, Bryan Maggard, AD, and Jessica Clarke-Leger, Patricia Cottonham, Megan Breaux, SAAC committee, and Carleigh Martin (as mentioned above) were aware that problems were had been occurring since the summer of 2017. There was various forms of gender inequality being performed against the softball team There was a failure to investigate physical violence incidents reported between teammates Inappropriate contact from administration to players - Dr. Savoie made various student-athletes uncomfortable by being drunk after games and giving inappropriate hugs. I personally felt very uncomfortable to the point that I started avoiding these hugs. All reported concerns were dismissed by administration even though it was presented to them multiple times. The softball coaching staff was fired in retaliation because they brought up gender equity concerns and supported our concerns as players. I was bullied and threatened by HR in a meeting that was conducted for the investigation by Lindsey Samuel and Stacy Robinette. They constantly were trying to peer pressure me into saying something and I was told that I would regret it if I didn't give them information. The harassment continued as they placed a “discipline hold” on my transcript to where I couldn't receive my permission to contact, which is just a simple piece of paper. Bryan Maggard and Jessica Leger-Clarke had prior knowledge of why I had a "hold" but retained that information against me. In result of that, I had to meet multiple times with student personnel. I believe this "disciplinary action" against me was in retaliation that I didn't come forward in the HR meeting. They used false accusations against me in order to keep me from transferring. Teammates referred to me and DJ Sanders as the N word due to jealousy. We were also targeted because we were leaders, All-Americans, and a minority. Administration failed to name associate head coach Chris Malveaux because he was a minority On November 6, 2017 - I was retaliated against by being removed from SAAC committee because of brought up issues about the Title IX issues we were experiencing. Administration named a student as an interim coach that created a hostile environment. There was chaos, stress, anxiety, and she also used curse words towards us which included “chill the fuck out” during practice. We were threatened to be taken to jail by administration for taking our personal belongings from the locker room. November 17, 2017 - I was retaliated and harassed by ULL game management and security. They used discrimination and only the softball athletes were asked move and/or leave the game. Do you have written information that you think will help us understand your complaint? Yes 7. When did the last act of discrimination occur? Investigate all unresolved gender/race discrimination and retaliation by the University against all students, female student-athletes, and minorities. The dismissal of current administration A restructured athletic department Dismissal of Jessica Clarke-Leger because she continued to create chaos around the whole event working through student-athletes. She also manipulated the process and threatened student-athletes with her power and authority. 05/01/18 00:45:06 AM 67.1.209.44
