The News asked all three current members of the Railroad Commission of Texas about the large amount of campaign contributions that they have received from the oil and gas industry, which they regulate. Atmos Energy’s political action committee and company employees are among those donors. Christi Craddick I am thankful to have the support of many Texans because they believe in the work I am doing in serving as their Railroad Commissioner. Any action I take is based solely upon what I believe is in the best interest of the state, and all Texans. I would never accept a contribution with conditions attached to it. Ryan Sitton I’m the largest contributor to my campaign, so I am not beholden to anyone. My policy is to not accept contributions from companies with pending cases. The people that contribute to my campaign do so because they appreciate my technical expertise and business acumen. People and companies in specific industries regularly contribute to elected officials impacting those industries because everyone benefits from experienced and competent elected officials. As long as contributions are made appropriately, and transparently, then the voters are informed. My focus continues to be on ensuring that Atmos is following our rules, industry best practices and that they are doing what is necessary to keep their system safe – campaign contributions have zero impact on that. Wayne Christian My decisions before the Commission are based on sound science and evidence presented before me in the record.
