Dear Ms. Lavin,

I refer to your request, dated and received on 31St July, 2018 which you have made under the
Freedom of Information Act 2014 (FOI Act) for records held by An Garda Siochana. This of?ce
requested clari?cation which was received on 9th August, 2018. In this regard your request will
commence from this date.

Part 1(n) of Schedule 1 of the FOI Act states that An Garda Siochana is listed as a partially
included agency "insofar as it relates to administrative records relating to human resources,
or ?nance or procurement matters Therefore, only administrative records that relate to human
resources, ?nance or procurement shall be considered.

Your request sought:

All data pertaining to the number of assaults on staff of An Garda Siochana whilst on
duty for the period of 201 5-201 8, including, if possible, their rank, station location and
type of assault and any injury incurred

I wish to inform you that I have decided to grant your request on the 3rd September, 2018.
The purpose of this letter is to explain my decision.

1. Findings, particulars and reasons for decision
Details of your request were provided to the Health and Safety Section of An Garda Siochana
to identify records containing the information you have requested. Records have been located
in respect of your request.

Please find attached tables that details the Occupational Injuries incurred by members of An
Garda Siochana as a result of Assault whilst on duty in the year 2015, 2016, 2017 2018 (as
of 13/08/18).

An Garda Siochana is very mindful to the signi?cant occupational demands placed on its
members and the exposure to very stressful and traumatic situations. Critical support is
provided by the Chief Medical Of?cer, the Employee Assistance Service, the Peer Support
Network and counselling services.
