September 2018 Transit access during SR 520 construction Montlake Freeway Station to close as early as March 2019 To prioritize rider safety and reliable access to transit, the existing Montlake Freeway Station bus stops will close as early as March 2019. This also allows for a shorter Montlake Project construction duration. When the stops close, bus routes traveling between downtown and Seattle will no longer stop at the Montlake Freeway Station. Bus stops will remain open and operational on Montlake Boulevard East and at the Montlake Triangle/U-Link area. To assist riders affected by this closure, Sound Transit will implement supplemental transit or shuttle service to address gaps in service. Supplemental service will continue until King County Metro and Sound Transit implement additional service changes in the SR 520 corridor – currently planned for September 2019, pending board approvals. Below are the key differences for the most affected riders: SR 520 Westbound: SR 520 Eastbound: Redmond to University of Washington: Since route 545 will no longer stop at the flyer stop, riders will need to board a UW-bound bus on the eastside of Lake Washington. • Kirkland and other Northeast Communities to University of Washington: Since route 255 will no longer stop at the flyer stop, riders will use route 540 or board route 255 in Kirkland and transfer to a UW-bound bus at 92nd Ave or the Evergreen Point Rd lid stops. UW Light Rail and Montlake Triangle bus stops University of Washington to Kirkland and other Northeast Communities: Riders traveling to Kirkland will use route 540 or board any bus that stops at the 92nd Ave or the Evergreen Point Rd lid stops and transfer to route 255. WSDOT, the Seattle Department of Transportation, King County Metro, and Sound Transit are working collaboratively on developing multimodal improvements in the SR 520 corridor that support regional transit planning efforts and connect transit riders to key destinations.
