THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC 203504000 September so, 2018 The Honorable Rick R. Larsen House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Dear Representative Larsen: Thank you for your September 5, 2018 letter regarding homeporting of USS Nimitz (CVN 68). The Navy continuously evaluates carrier homeport locations to balance operations, maintenance, and training cycles while also considering strategic dispersal to mitigate risk to our critical assets and infrastructure. USS Nimitz (CVN 63) is scheduled to remain in Naval Station Bremerton a?er her Docking Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) due, in part, to maintenance ef?ciencies and minimizing impact to personnel. The future homeporting of USS Nimitz (CVN 68), USS Ford (CVN 78), and other aircraft carriers is addressed through our Strategic Laydown and Dispersal planning process and takes many factors into account, including those raised in your letter. Naval Station Everett remains an important part of the Navy?s long-term planning and we are committed to its continued use. The Navy staff looks forward to brie?ng you on the strategic laydown and dispersal plan in the near ?iture. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts on this issue. If I may be of further assistance, please let me know. Sincerely, Rich V. Spencer
