Operation MISafeKid Conducted in Wayne County
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LIVONIA, MICH. The Michigan State Police (MSP) and law enforcement officers from federal, county and
local agencies in Wayne County, participated in Operation MISafeKid today, Sept. 26, a missing juvenile
sweep with an emphasis on uncovering victims of sex trafficking.

Officers were given packets of information about the children, and their cases, and spent the day visiting
last known addresses, friend’s homes and schools in hopes of finding them safe.

During the eight-hour operation, 107 juveniles were recovered safely. All located were interviewed about
potential sex trafficking crimes and, as a result, three new sex trafficking cases were opened. One 14year-old child was found to be homeless and squatting in a vacant home. He was safely returned to foster
care.

This is the first time an operation of this kind has been conducted in Wayne County. Similar sweeps have
been conducted in Genesee County with great success.

Agencies involved included the Allen Park Police Department, Canton Police Department, Dearborn
Heights Police Department, Detroit Police Department, Detroit Public Schools Police Department, FBITrafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force, Flat Rock Police Department, Inkster Police Department,
Northville Township Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, Redford Township Police
Department, Riverview Police Department, Romulus Police Department, Trenton Police Department, Van
Buren Township Police Department, Wayne Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the
United States Marshal Service-Missing Child Recovery Unit as well as the Michigan Department of Health
and Human Services (DHHS) and its Children’s Protective Services (CPS) and Vista Maria.
