Resolution of Support for Proposition 10 Honorable Mayor Robert Moon and Members ofthe City Council: On behalf of and homeowners in Palm Springs, we are respectfully requesting Item 1. Resolution of Support for Proposition 10 be removed from the Consent Calendar and that you not approve this Resolution. While Councilmember?s Kors and Holstege intentions are understood, there will be unintended consequences with supporting the Proposition. Repeal of the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act will worsen the housing crisis. Support of Proposition 10 will send a message to Palm Springs homeowners that the City will impose Rent Controls immediately. This will cause current landlords to act on their own to either convert to vacation or seasonal rentals, sell their properties or otherwise take their property offthe long-term rental market. Many ofthe landlords in Palm Springs have just a few rental properties which they invested in for their retirement. The passing ofthe Proposition will put their investments at risk. This Proposition will also drive up rents, discourage new construction, decrease home values, reduce available single-family rentals and force people out of their homes.
