Expansion Program Update The RapidRide Expansion Program is moving forward • King County Metro is committed to expanding RapidRide, building eventually to the full METRO CONNECTS vision for the county. • After a careful review of capital funding and our capital delivery capacity, we are moving forward with planning and design of an initial seven lines throughout the county. • Plans to implement seven new RapidRide lines by 2027 Implementing the program according to Metro values • We prioritize lines according to criterial developed in METRO CONNECTS including social equity, geographic balance, potential ridership and productivity and funding availability. Partners are critical to success • Collaboration with regional partners is critical in planning, development and construction of a new RapidRide line. • We are eager to continue our work to bring RapidRide to their communities and will look to them for creative support. Delivery Schedule and Timeline • The revised schedule and timeline will allow RapidRide to grow regionally while maintaining a focus on individual community needs and local agency partnerships. • In order to apply for additional funding through federal grants, we’re building extra time into the delivery schedule and phasing implementation of the program over a longer period of time. CURRENT WORK • Coordination with Seattle on G Line design and fleet, Seattle CBD-Mt. RapidRide is Metro’s premium fixed-route product, where customers can expect service that is consistently fast, reliable, and frequent. RapidRide is where the agency focuses innovation and development of new features and technologies for fixed-route service to offer a convenient travel option. Excellent passenger experience. RapidRide is recognized as an enhanced service, consistently providing a high level of customer experience with quality shelters and amenities. RapidRide is integrated with other Metro services and the regional system to expand mobility options and allow customers to travel farther faster. It is easy and intuitive to use. Supported by productive and sustained partnerships. Partnerships are critical for successful RapidRide service. Metro works with jurisdictional and regional partners to grow and enhance RapidRide service, in turn helping support our partner’s growth and travel needs. Agency and partner roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and partnerships help make RapidRide faster, more reliable, and a valuable asset to each community it serves. Safe and secure. Like all Metro services, customers feel safe on RapidRide buses, at stations, and getting to and from their destination. Facilities are clean, well-lit, with high visibility to surrounding locations. Cost effective. Resources are efficiently utilized to deliver the optimal product possible at the best price. Measures are taken to improve efficiency and productivity as RapidRide becomes the Metro service with the highest volume of ridership systemwide. Equitable and sustainable. In alignment with Metro’s systemwide goals, RapidRide supports King County where all people have equitable opportunities to thrive. Equity and social justice are central to decision-making, and direct investments to areas with the greatest need. RapidRide supports public health and environmental goals in partner communities by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and encouraging active transportation.
