Statement from ABOR Chair Ron Shoopman
“The Arizona Board of Regents is confident the Arizona Court of Appeals will affirm the
Maricopa County Superior Court’s decision, which dismissed the Attorney General’s complaint.
“We are proud that our Arizona public universities are among the nation’s most cost-effective
institutions and best values for students. The board is committed to keeping tuition as low as
possible, while maintaining the quality of the state’s public universities. It is a fact that
compared to public university peers, Arizona's public universities graduate a higher percentage
of students at a lower cost. Nearly half of undergraduate students at our universities graduate
with no debt.
“This doesn’t mean our work is complete. The board shares the Attorney General’s goal of
ensuring tuition affordability and predictability, helping keep an Arizona higher education within
reach of all Arizona students and families. The Arizona Board of Regents will continue to work to
keep our institutions accessible and of high quality. A quality higher education is still one of the
best value propositions available to Arizona students.”
