Mr. Owen also expressed his desire to see our Veterans gainfully employed. I am responding on behalf ofthe Navy Chief of Legislative Affairs. i fully agree with Mr. Owen that we should hire Veterans and I applaud him for starting a non?profit group, VETality Corp, dedicated to helping our former service members ?nd employment and combat both Veteran suicides and drug use. The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is fully committed to employing Veterans. Between October 2015 and May 2016, we hired 465 former service members into our Enterprise. Further, NAVS EA along with several other Navy commands hosted its annual Veterans and Wounded Warrior Summit earlier this month in Tampa, Florida. If Mr. Owen would like to contact NAVSEA regarding our veteran hiring efforts, he can call our Wounded Warrior and Disabled Veteran Program Manager CA PT Ann Duff at (202) 781-5309 or e-mail her at ann.duff1 @navy.mi1. Regarding Mr. Owen?s concerns about ships security, the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center is currently working with Commander, Paci?c Fleet to ensure that the commercial shipyards are in compliance with all applicable security requirements. There is on- going work that will lead to a full and open competition for waterborne security at the shipyards under cognizance.
