To the Dartmouth Community:
Events across our country this past week targeting people for who they are--their religion, political views, gender identity, race, and
ethnicity--have left many of us saddened and concerned, and many people in our community are feeling afraid.
The violence, intolerance, and toxic divisiveness that seem so prevalent in our national discourse right now must be resolved, but can
only be addressed through careful listening and understanding across difference. The polarization within our society and the tragic
consequences it generates reinforce the need for us to model empathy, understanding, and open dialogue.
I urge all members of the Dartmouth family to come together and affirm our belief in a welcoming and supportive environment and to
reach out to one another with open minds and hearts. Bigotry and hatred have no place in our society. To those who may be impacted
by these harmful events, please know that we stand with you.
We urge all students, faculty, and staff who would like to speak to a counselor to contact Dick's House, or to contact Safety and
Security at (603) 646-4000 at any hour, or the Faculty/Employee Assistance Program (F/EAP) at (603) 646-1165.
