Middle East Cary Middle School • 10 of the past 11 years (2008-09 to present) Months of Employment have been funded by WCPSS in order to properly staff the school (based on student enrollment) • East Cary MS has a small base attendance area assigned to the school (current base attendance area / capacity= 679 students/ 1268 seats = 54%) • The Board in recent years has directed staff to identify adequate elementary > middle feeder patterns in order to maximize the capacity www.wcpss.net 29 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle East Cary Middle School • Current feeder schools: Adams ES (YR), Carpenter ES (YR), Cary ES (Trad), Dillard Drive (Trad), Morrisville ES (YR) • Carpenter ES and Morrisville ES are proposed to feed to Alston Ridge MS (YR) according to Draft 3 • Other elementary schools proximate to East Cary MS: Briarcliff ES (Trad), Farmington Woods ES (Trad), Kingswood ES (Trad), Northwoods ES (Trad), Weatherstone ES (Trad) • Other Year-Round Middle Schools in the area (utilization): Salem MS (87.4%) and Lufkin Road MS (77.1%) www.wcpss.net 30 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle East Cary Middle School • Kitts Creek and Providence Place are proposed to attend Alston Ridge MS (YR) • Morrisville ES (YR) base is currently assigned to East Cary MS (YR) and West Cary MS (Trad) but is now also proposed to feed to Alston Ridge MS (YR) www.wcpss.net 31 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle Methods to increase the base attendance area for East Cary MS (YR) • Convert current Traditional elementary schools to Year-Round (Ex. Briarcliff ES, Farmington Woods ES or Kingswood ES) • Assign Traditional elementary schools and purposefully misalign elementary > middle feeder pattern • Use satellite areas (with or without current residents) www.wcpss.net 32 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle Methods to increase the base attendance area for East Cary MS (YR) • Convert current Traditional elementary schools to Year-Round (Ex. Briarcliff ES, Farmington Woods ES or Kingswood ES)- larger number of families impacted • Assign Traditional elementary schools and purposefully misalign elementary > middle feeder pattern- does not align with current plan • Use satellite areas (with or without current residents)- impacts new families late in the process, does not address immediate needs of the school, inefficient for transportation, will need to “reshuffle” again once area is occupied www.wcpss.net 33 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle East Cary MS (Trad) • Addresses Enrollment Cap on Reedy Creek MS • Reduces/Eliminates the need for additional local funding to fully staff the school • Opportunity to provide a more proximate attendance area for most assigned to the school www.wcpss.net 34 Operational Efficiency – East Cary Middle Changes for Draft 3: • Kingswood ES base move to Reedy Creek MS reversed • Martin MS base move to Reedy Creek MS reversed • Davis Drive MS base move to East
