He has played and recorded with numerous small groups and big bands including Louis Haye?s Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band and the Louis Hayes Quartet, Natalie Cole, Connie Francis, Gloria Gaynor, the Illinois Jacquet Big Band, the Christian McBride Big Band, Michael Feinstein, the Count Basie Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Julius has played in the top iazz venues and festivals in the US, which includes Avery Fisher Hall, the Newport Jazz Festival, Tanglewood, the Village Vanguard, Birdland, Blue Note, the Jazz Standard and Dizzy?s Coca Cola. As a leader his debut cd ?Just the Beginning? on the Sharp Nine label peaked at #8 on the jazz charts in 2006. As an educator Mr. has worked with hundreds of students from all across the country. In 2006 he became the jazz director at Newark Academy, where he currently conducts ?ve jazz ensembles. He also holds positions at the New Jersey Youth as the Director of the NJYS Jazz Orchestra, and Jazz at Lincoln Center as a Middle School Jazz Academy Director and as a JALC travelling clinician. His groups have won and have been finalists in several national festivals and competitions. Essentially Ellington (2012-2018), the Charles Mingus Competition (2011-2018) and the Mid Atlantic Jazz Festival. At the state level, Newark Academy has received First Place at the NJAJE State Finals nine years running 2010-2018. Julius is currently serving on the board of the Jazz Education Network, JEN. Julius Tolentino has been awarded Best of NJ, category Jazz Musician Inside Jersey/Star Ledger in 2010, the Jacquet Jazz Educator of the Year award courtesy of the Illinois Jacquet Foundation in 2013, and the NJ Jazz Education Achievement Award by NJAJE in 2018. New Jersey Youth NJYS The New Jersey Youth is a non~protit organization based in New Providence, New Jersey. Founded in 1979, the NJYS has grown to annually provide nearly 450 young instrumentalists from all around New Jersey with outstanding music performance and educational experiences. There are three string ensembles, three full orchestras, three ?ute ensembles, chamber music programs, music theory classes, a summer camp, and other various outreach activities. NJYS accepts string players from 3rd grade to 12th grade, and wind and percussion players from 6th grade to 12th grade. All students are accepted by competitive audition and then placed in an appropriate ensemble based on age and playing ability. In 1980 the organization became an independent 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation. The Youth is currently led by Maestro Helen Cha-Pyo. NJYS is the only youth orchestra program in the New York metropolitan area that has its own permanent facility for orchestra and small ensemble rehearsals, as well as classroom spaces. Recipient of numerous accolades from the press, and Citations of Excellence from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Youth has mounted five European tours and performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on a number of occasions over its twenty?six year history. 'Woorf Legacy PRODUCTIONS Lori Wood Montague Executive Producer Professional History Lori is the former Director of Operations for Jazz House Kids. Her primary responsibilities included the planning and execution of all of the events that took place, as well as manage the daily operations of the organization. She served as the project manager for the building of the Jazz House located in the downtown arts district of Montclair. The opportunity to help customize a space befitting to the amount of work being produced by the Jazz House Kids team, faculty and students was an exciting experience. Lori took great pride in producing the organizations signature events; Body Soul, Inside The Jazz Note and the award-winning Montclair Jazz Festival. During her tenure she instituted an intern program, developed a summer housing program for the Summer Workshop students that is currently held on the campus of Montclair State University, and instituted the first and only plan to serve alcohol in Montclair Township's Park history that has generated a substantial sponsorship for the Montclair Jazz Festival annually. Her roots in the community, service and management skills were all instilled early on while working in her family ice cream and catering business that was established by her grandparents and led by her father in later years. A cornerstone in the a Montclair community for nearly 50 years, it is her family legacy that has provided the firm foundation on which her work ethic and strong leadership ability stem from. She is proud about the contributions she was able to bring forth to Jazz House Kids through her life lessons and experience, and is passionate to offer her services to a wider audience with her own personal brand, Wood Legacy Productions, LLC where she creates executes innovative events, provides nonprofit consulting fundraising strategies, as well as unique culinary experiences for off-premise affairs.
