Adams County School District I4 529 East 60?'1 Avenue A I 4 Commerce City. CO 80022 Inspin. Harm. Empomr. lduca. Fomlcn. P: 303-35 3 -3 204 F: 303-286-9753 I 4.0rg Open Letter September 20, 2018 To the Adams 14 Community: We are sorry that we have let you down. For more than a decade, our efforts to improve your schools have fallen painfully short. Despite our well-intentioned tactics to get the district out of turnaround, six generations of school boards and four different superintendents and their administrations (including the current leadership) have not worked well together. As a result, our various and con?icting priorities, coupled with the constant turnover and organizational disarray, have produced unacceptable results. This ongoing cycle of low expectations and the unwillingness to collaborate with our stakeholders have created a disservice to our students and a loss of trust with the community. This is why Adams 14 continues to be one of the lowest performing school districts in our state for eight years in a row. This has to stop. Our students deserve so much more. Regardless of who was in power at which period of time, and regardless of which leaders will serve future students, we - the current team choose to own the challenges and environment we and our predecessors have created in Adams 14. This November, Adams 14 will face the State Board of Education for failing to meet acceptable academic performance standards again. Instead of rushing to develop another haphazard plan without stakeholder engagement, as we have done for the last decade, we choose to work with the community and stakeholders to develop a community-informed strategic vision that forces the school district to honestly address the leadership, organizational, academic and systemic challenges in Adams 14. We choose to work with you, and hope that you will choose to work with us. Our students are counting on all of us. Yours in service, --NAMES--
