November 13, 2018 Sigma Pi, Epsilon Chapter c/o Elijah Wahib, President/Sage via e-mail: ew012015@ohio.edu RE: NOTIFICATION OF DIRECTIVE TO CEASE & DESIST Dear Elijah: I am contacting you in your role as President/Sage of the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity. The Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility has received information which alleges that your organization has engaged in conduct that puts the health and safety of your members at risk and is not in compliance with the behavioral expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. This letter serves as notification that the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity has been assigned an administrative directive to immediately cease and desist all organizational activities. This action is being taken because the alleged conduct puts the health and safety of Ohio University students at risk. The conditions of this directive mean that the group is not to meet in any capacity, officially or unofficially. This includes organizational meetings, meetings of the executive board, organizational programming, social events, philanthropic events, recreational sports competitions, and any trip or travel. This also includes communication with and among the group via any means, including voice, e-mail, text, or any social media platform or application. I will notify all chapter members of this directive. To reiterate, I expect there to be no other communication with your members, unless it is pre-approved by me. I also expect you to supply me, as soon as possible, but by no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2018 with the following: a full list of your membership, including any potential new members or pledges; a full list of anyone who was given a bid but is no longer in the process, the reason they are no longer in the process, and any documentation related to their removal or withdrawal from the process, and; any and all big/little pairings among organization members. Please e-mail them to me at the address listed below. Failure to do so will result in both the organization as a whole and you as an individual being charged with Failure to Comply under the University’s Student Code of Conduct. If there are any issues getting this information to me by the deadline, please contact me as soon as possible. The Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility (CSSR) has initiated an investigation into these allegations. As such, in the coming weeks, members of your organization may be required to appear before CSSR or other University staff. We expect your and your members’ assistance and cooperation with this investigation. As both your organization and the university share a common goal of student safety, and in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, we ask that members not discuss the topics covered in their meetings with each other. This investigation will take some time, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. I have been in touch with the Sigma Pi Fraternity national staff and have copied them on this message as well. Please understand that while this administrative directive is not a University sanction, you and your organization are expected to comply with the terms of this directive. It is important to note that failure to comply with the conditions of a lawful directive of a university official would be considered a violation of the Ohio University Student Code of Conduct and may result in both individual and organizational disciplinary action. I appreciate your cooperation and look forward to working with your organization to resolve this matter. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at comptonm@ohio.edu or by phone at 740-593-2629.
