CHIEF DISTRICT COURT JUDGE FOR NEW ZEALAND TE KAIWHAKAWA MATUA 0 TE KOTI-A-ROHE Judge Jan-Marie Doogue 14 November 2018 To Crown Law New Zealand Law Society Auckland District Law Society Criminal Bar Association Family Law Section INDUSTRIAL ACTION write to inform you that the impact of escalating industrial action in the District Court has led me to make the following decisions to ensure the orderly and efficient conduct of the court?s business. In the exercise of my statutory responsibilities (5 24(3) of the District Court Act 2016) I advise: (1) With effect from 19 November 2018 the sessions of the District Court shall be altered to align the morning, lunch and afternoon adjournments with those being taken by Court staff. (2) It is no longer orderly or efficient to roster or schedule judges beyond the existing rosters, and cases that cannot be allocated an event or a hearing will be recorded on a ready list for scheduling at a later date. I appreciate the impact this may have on your members, but I trust I can rely on their cooperation and goodwill to help keep the wheels ofjustice turning for people who need access to justice and who rely on the District Court. Yours faithfully Jan?Marie I 6 Chief District Cour cc: Rt Hon Dame Sian Elias, ChiefJustice of New Zealand Level 10, 70 The Terrace DX 5X11240 PO Box 10-167 Wellington, New Zealand Phone: +64 (0) 4 914 3440 Direct: +64 (0) 4 914 3441 Fax: +64 (0) 4 914 3447
