Statement by the South Florida Water Management
District in response to wrongful termination lawsuit filed
by Blue Goose Construction:
“At this point, the South Florida Water Management District
(SFWMD) has not been served with any lawsuit by Blue Goose
Construction. If that happens, this agency will vigorously defend
itself. However, this line of questioning is unsurprising as Blue
Goose Construction has several times threatened to use the
media against this agency if not paid tens of millions of additional
taxpayer dollars above the contracted price.”
“Blue Goose Construction was hired to build the C-44 Stormwater
Treatment Area water quality improvement feature and they have
severely fallen behind schedule for a project critical to protecting
the St. Lucie Estuary and its residents. All of Blue Goose
Construction’s claims are unsubstantiated and meritless. In
anticipation of litigation, SFWMD hired independent experts to
examine Blue Goose's claims. These independent experts
determined that Blue Goose Construction has inflated costs and
any additional work in reality would cost significantly less than the
tens of million dollars demanded by Blue Goose Construction.”
“SFWMD appropriately required a bond for this contract and as
such is working with the bonding company to ensure this feature
is finished as soon as possible so that it may operate as intended
but well before the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completes their
construction of the C-44 Reservoir in 2021.”
