California 9h123 Dear Mr. Crane. Congratulations on the success of your new libertarian magazine ?Inquiry?. I have read all of your early issues and I am convinced your magazine will address a substantial segment of the population and issues. which til now the lib- ertarian publications have failed to do. I'm sure you know of what I am speakingl i.e. the younger set. the college crowd and the left wing of the political spectrum. I am thrilled to know that someone has finally answered this need. And I am highly impressed with your approach. It should be most effective. I am a long-time activist in the Libertarian Party and a member of the Fairbanks LP Executive Committee. I am also a close friend and business associate of Dick Randolph. whom you know personally. We would like to use your magazine to develop a liber? tarian following at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. Up til now, our attempts to organise the of A have met with little success. primarily. in my opinion. because the image we have built and the issues we have dealt with appeals to the independent conservatives and those of the rightewing. We believe "Inquiry" may well be the key to change that. To begin. we'll need l?~50 copies of the Jan. 2 issue of ?Inquiry" (the lead story in that issue is the most significant contribution of "Inquiry? to date) plus 50 copies of the most recent issue. We will distribute these copies(and other materials we already have) to the students on the Fairbanks of A campus in an effort to develop an "Inquiry" readership and a Libertarian Party group. Mr. Randolph and I feel that inasmuch as we could de- velop a siseable readership for you. that you just might .be willing to donate these copies to us. However. in the event that it is just impossible for you to give them to us. the Fairbanks LP would be willing to pay the bill for these copies at wholesale discount prices. Once we built up a siseable readership. we intend that our bookstore "Alaska Freedom Liberty Books" will be- come your Alaska distributor. Therefore. as you can see. not only are we trying to organise a libertarian following on the campus here: we are also trying to develop a business opportunity that will prove profitable to you as well as 130 115- 7: look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely. Yours for FreedomI 2:4; KM Timothy A Dove
